BBC today reports that car sales have fallen for the third consecutive month. Down 8.9% on Sept 2009. That's quite a large fall against a reasonably low base.
You'd think this is a good time to buy, and maybe it is. Vat is set to rise in January which will affect both new and used prices, but strangely, due to low levels of production, you may have to wait until way into 2011 if you order now. Lead times of 12-20 weeks are common place and the days of tripping into a car dealer and taking delivery of a shiny new one days later are all but gone.
My best advice is to get down there sooner rather than later, if you motivation is to save money by beating the VAT increase, ordering about now would not guarantee you delivery but you would certainly stand a much better chance!
